Heavy Listening w/ Tanja Turner, Mert Seger & Heap – Coco

VLAN presents HEAVY LISTENING HEAVY LISTENING puts music first: immersive, patient and made for attentive ears. Ambient, New Age, Dub, Downtempo, Tribal and experimental electronics meet in a format that offers an alternative to the accelerated rhythms of digital culture and the constant pull of short-form content. HEAVY LISTENING - Fourth Edition Doors 20:00 20:00 Tanja Turner (DJ) 21:00 Mert Seger (Live) 22:00 Heap (DJ) Tanja Turner is a Vienna-based DJ, curator. She draws inspiration from past & present with an ever-curious ear for the unconventional. Her sets are a dynamic blend – at times introspective and moody, at others playful & energetic. https://soundcloud.com/tanjaturner Fugged out, offbeat industro-dub grubbers by a new alias of Lyon’s Marc-Étienne Guibert (AKA Gil.Barte), ideal for getting slanted and enchanted with likeminded bits from the nether zones of Mobbs, BFDM, Krikor, Geins’t Naït The founder of KUMP and Meth.O tapes adds a new line of inquiry to his irregular catalogue with 40 minutes of murky bass and vaporous shapes that blur distinctions between club and home listening styles. It’s a satisfyingly unclean and absorbing session that keeps itself to itself and primed for solo headphone rituals or soundtracking dungeon basement action. Skudged subs and rickety percussion set a scene somewhere between noir and cyberpunk in opener ‘Heiter’ that shapeshifts between passages of Mobbs-type full sunk dread in ‘Dominio’ and spooked out, chain-rattling and panel-beating mischief in ‘Wa-Sho’, vacillating atmospheric pressures with wickedly cruddy rhythmic impulses as a lurching ‘Parade’ reminding of ancient Muslimgauze passes down the U-bend to creaking organism of ‘Lotus Bleu’, the ace itchy stepper ‘Shapiri’, and a perfectly anticlimactic ‘Intemporel Présent’ that dials it down in a properly low-key way appropriate to the album. https://plaquebristol.bandcamp.com/album/empire-des-pulsions Heap digs deep. Not one to bow to trends and fanciful fads he knows his shit. Real abstract electronics for the dancefloors with a twist. The Neubau founder has worked tirelessly for years showcasing the best in raw, rugged, forward thinking music. https://neubau.bandcamp.com Looking forward to seeing you there! 🧭 With kind support of the City of Vienna/MA 7.
