Leo Genovese Quintet

Leo was born in Argentina in 1979. He moved to the United States in 2001. He has been traveling the world playing music for the last twenty years. He has eight albums as a leader and dozens as a sideman. He believes in music as a force of change. He practices the saxophone in hotel rooms. He doesn't support MP3 culture. He cooks pretty spicy food, like his music. This artist does not have a bio yet. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, saxophonist Mark Shim moved to Canada then later settled in Richmond, Virginia. He started on saxophone in seventh grade, graduating from high school in 1991 and attending Virginia Commonwealth University and William Paterson College. In 1994 he moved to Brooklyn, where he played and recorded with Hamiett Bluiett in Harlem. He then played with Mose Allison, Betty Carter, Greg Osby, and the Mingus Big Band.Shim's debut recording Mind Over Matter (Blue Note, 1998) was followed by New Directions , a young group project, that included Osby, Jason Moran, and Stefon Harris and then his second recording as a leader, the outstanding Turbulent Flow, both released on Blue Note in 2000.With a unique deep timbre and chops that range from swinging bop, uncut funk, to avant-garde, Shim continues to perform, record, and tour with artists such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Carmen Lundy, The Headhunters, Michele Rosewoman, Liberty Ellman, and Steve Lehman. Jerome Harris’s first major professional performing experience came as bass guitarist with jazz icon Sonny Rollins in 1978; from 1988 to 1994 he played guitar with Rollins. Harris has performed on six continents, working with Jack DeJohnette, David Krakauer, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Leni Stern, Martha Redbone, Ray Anderson, Julius Hemphill, Amina Claudine Myers, Ned Rothenberg, Oliver Lake, and many others. Jerome Harris appears on over sixty recordings; his formative musical experiences include blues, folk, gospel, and a range of other American music genres. He has taught at Hampshire College, William Paterson University, Lehman College (City University of New York), and the 2021 Alternative Guitar Summit Camp. Harris's published essays include "Considering Jaki Byard" (*Sound American* SA22; New York: Anthology of Recorded Music, Inc., 2019), and "Jazz on the Global Stage" (*The African Diaspora: A Musical Perspective*; edited by Ingrid Monson; New York: Garland/Taylor & Francis, 2000).
